"Variations of Stillness" is the first mini album released by Ólafur Arnalds in 2008 after an initial career as a drummer for... metal bands.

A priori, nothing could be further from the truth than this instrumental music, which could be described as "ambient" if the term weren't slightly pejorative; in any case, music that is both minimalist and highly orchestrated (Ólafur has a particular talent for making the strings ring) which plunges into changing, dreamy, strange, and sometimes slightly disturbing atmospheres.
