Already very popular with their first albums, Nýdönsk performed in 2004 at Háskólabíó, the cultural center of Reykjavík University, with the Iceland Symphony Orchestra. This exercise is not so surprising in a country where musical genres (and more broadly the arts) are also respected and collaborate constantly. Harpa, the Reykjavík opera house built after the 2008 crisis, regularly hosts pop or rock stars ( Björk, Ásgeir ) in symphonic formation.
In the case of Nýdönsk, the result is stunning. The songs are completely rearranged and from the first one, Skynjun , we are plunged into a musical comedy atmosphere à la Bernard Herrmann, in which the voice of Björn Jörundur Friðbjörnsson emerges, disturbingly mimicking David Bowie . With Hei þú , we dive into a rock opera underlined by strings and brass and a jazzy piano and Þá kemur þú offers an opening of contemporary music.
