A hot topic if ever there was one, whaling has been constantly stopped and then resumed in recent years, depending on the balance of power between public opinion, the government and the only company holding hunting permits, which is clearly very skilled at lobbying.

Now a majority of Icelanders are in favor of stopping this hunt... the product of which they do not consume, most of the animals killed being exported to Japan or offered by restaurants in Reykjavik to tourists in search of thrills who imagine they are sharing a tradition that no longer has any reality (in 2020, 1% of Icelanders said they eat whale meat).
