The authors, he a photographer and she a journalist, traveled across Iceland for two years to meet their compatriots, often isolated in environments as harsh as they are magnificent. Energy-self-sufficient farms, villages untouched for decades, but also isolation, poverty... these long portraits interspersed with interviews reinforce some of the picture-postcard images that this country generates in abundance but do not avoid the prosaic nature of daily life: daily management of flocks of sheep, dispersed families, alcoholism.
This small-format book achieves a rare balance between the quality of the texts and the very well-processed photos - which is not so common.
