Helgi Valur // Electric Ladyboy Land

Clearly raised on the accents of British pop, Helgi Valur even retroactively places himself in the ephemeral but prolific glam vein with the suggestive, lamé cover of this album, his third and penultimate. During his concerts between 2005 and 2007, he also sported the sequins and queer look de rigueur in this register.

While Run 4 Cover is an anthem like Jarvis Cocker (whose voice Helgi has a bit of at times) knew how to write for the immense Pulp , Sell Fish Lee , with its almost folk rhythm and the trumpet flights, is more reminiscent of the Waterboys and the bouncy I've Got The Stars On My Side of the early Blur . Wet Thick Sensual Lips , the last title, more funk, is there to remind us that Prince is also claimed by Helgi as a major influence.
