Skúli Sverrisson

A major figure in contemporary music (a sort of Pierre Henry local), Skúli Sverrisson composes very enveloping sound universes, which he performs on bass and often in collaboration with other musicians.

In a country where the division of genders, generations and borders is never an obstacle, he worked with Lou Reed, David Sylvian, Ryuichi Sakamoto Or Blond Red Head.

It was with the young electro composer Gudmundur Arnalds that I saw him improvise a hypnotic set (the kind that makes you lose track of time), at the very friendly Mengi (of which Gudmundur is also one of the co-founders), a tiny room (20 seats at most, you sit on the steps) with an adventurous program of music, video works (a few days before I saw an installation by Olof Arnalds , another Gyro Gearloose to whom we owe a sublime duet with Björk . ( Surrender )) and performances that escape all boxes. Mengi is now a label that releases equally singular records.
