An interview with photographer Hervé Jézéquel and ethnographer Vanessa Doutreleau, whose book portrays objects recovered from shipwrecked Breton and Norman schooners during the Icelandic fishing expedition. Their presence in Icelandic landscapes, homes, and museums is a testament to the ties forged between the two peoples in the last century.

Iceland was "born from the connivance of glaciers and volcanoes," as Violaine Sautter so aptly puts it, and the gaze of photographer Hervé Jézéquel makes this double matrix legible, the extent of which was already being measured in the Edda (stories of Norse mythology) in the 13th century.

Between sudden eruptions and centuries of slumber, how can writing draw inspiration from the life cycle of volcanoes? We will follow the path from fire to stone, and travel through the long history of the formation of geological strata, to explore the volcanic power of writing.

Emerging from the ocean in 1963 off the coast of Iceland, Surtsey is a small, protected volcanic island. It is expected to disappear within a few decades, as the lava erodes under the onslaught of storms and the ocean. Photographer Hervé Jézéquel and ethnographer Vanessa Doutreleau joined Icelandic researchers to create a scientific and poetic portrait of this ephemeral territory.

In 2022, during a trip to Sicily, Hugo Soriso, graphic designer and visual artist, sought a new way to experiment with graphic gestures on a bodily scale. He brought back a bag of volcanic ash in his suitcase, which would be the beginning of a new adventure.

Ásgeir has joined the limited number of Icelandic musicians known in France. His father, the poet and lyricist Einar Georg Einarsson, wrote the lyrics for his first album. Ísland invites you to discover the music of one and the poetry of the other.

Come experience a poetry journey with a reading of "Petits morceaux, chants et animaux," a collection written and read by Gautier Degandt, a Rennes-based singer with the bands Bâton Bleu and En Gramma. Gautier will guide you through the realms of intimacy, sensuality, and life.
