From Reykjavik to Agadès, via Morlaix
By a geographical quirk, Morlaix is located exactly on the route, seen from a bird's eye view, between Reykjavik in Iceland and Agadès in Niger.
By a coincidence of timing, the Tuareg blacksmith Aboubacar was in Morlaix in July 2023, during the inauguration of the exhibition of the Icelandic painter Birgir.
Clear signs that the two universes were meant to meet, weren't they?
More prosaically, their cohabitation at 67 rue du Mur in Morlaix owes mainly to the fact that friends from Morlaix have maintained links for years with Tuareg artisans, who entrust them with their productions during sporadic stays in France.
The jewelry, bags, cushions, boxes, etc. offered therefore meet the same principles as those I set for myself when importing art and crafts from Iceland: knowing the authors, selecting works and objects that are not seen 1000 times elsewhere, at the tightest possible prices, while paying the producers correctly, without intermediaries, and offering a website and - as much as possible - meetings and exchanges around the social and cultural context of production of these works.
The new exhibition, presented until March 9, 2025 , therefore organizes the meeting between the finesse of the engraved jewelry and the portraits of musicians, from the season 3 of Icelandic Waves , a long-term project by Hélène Tourbine with the Icelandic music scene.
Moreover, a site dedicated to Tuareg crafts is under construction. It has been delayed due to Meta-esque emergencies (see below), and online sales are not yet active. Please be patient...
