Iceland is no exception to the literary prize ritual, and the list of finalists was announced in mid-December.
The now famous Jón Kalman Stefánsson appears in fiction, with Arnaldur Indriðason , who occasionally strays from the thriller, Gerður Kristný, Birgitta Björg Guðmarsdóttir also a musician in the punk band Ólafur Kram, and Kristín Ómarsdóttir.
The prizes also cover children's books, non-fiction and crime novels, including Stefán Máni, the first Icelandic author to be translated into Série noire in 2010, and Eva Björg Ægisdóttir, also translated into French.
